Meet our exhibitors from near to far: TerraCyclic & Americol

Thursday, 8 February 2024

With close to 1000 exhibitors from across the world, Interclean Amsterdam is where the international cleaning and hygiene industry gathers to discover the future of clean! We recently caught up with two of our exhibitors to find out why they’re excited to participate in the biggest event on the international cleaning calendar.

Demonstrating the amazing selection of providers, products and innovations on show, Chris Lovatt from TerraCyclic in New Zealand (our furthest exhibitor) and Richard de Jong, Commercial Manager for Americol (our closest exhibitor) in The Netherlands, shared their insights and advice.

Have you exhibited at Interclean before?

Richard: Good question, I think it's the 6th time.
Chris: We have been frequenting Interclean Amsterdam regularly since 2006.

What are you hoping to get from participating at the show?

Richard: It is a great trade show for us to get in touch with potential new partners, but also to speak to our existing partners in a different setting. We can show both groups our total range and of course introduce new products and innovations.
Chris:We are always looking for new innovations or raw materials that may provide further advantages in our quest for a more environmental product. Interclean Amsterdam can offer us solutions to reduce our carbon footprint and freight volume significantly, which is important as we ship from the other side of the world!

What are your goals?

Richard: Showing our great products and innovations and getting a lot of follow-ups from that.
Chris: Networking with fellow professionals in the industry and getting a look at the very latest designs, solutions and innovations – it’s all under one roof and convenient and accessible.

What are you looking forward to?

Richard: It is always a great show where everyone has the opportunity to come together again. I look forward to greeting our connections, making new contacts and catching up with the other exhibitors.
Chris: We want to make sure we’re ahead of the curve. Interclean Amsterdam offers unbeatable content and opportunities to learn from global experts.

What will you be showing at the event?

Richard: Our fantastic hand cleaners with natural grains, all of which we have improved in 2023. But also, our facility cleaning products, of which we have also developed many new types. And of course, our Pod-Powered Cleaning Innovation JAWS which stands for “Just Add Water System”. It is a super-concentrated cleaning solution in a spray bottle that removes tough dirt, saves on water and is safe on modern surfaces.
Chris: We will have our unique Bio Bins on display, including all our retrofit components, that change a standard unit into handsfree options. The Bio Bin can be tailor made with these components to suit an individual customer’s unique needs.

What does Interclean mean to you as a professional in the global cleaning and hygiene industry?

Richard: It is the largest cleaning trade show in the world where everyone in our incredible industry comes together, so this means a lot to us and our market. The Interclean week is an amazing opportunity to present ourselves to the world.
Chris: We have found this trade show very valuable, as it attracts people from many different countries around the world. It also allows us to educate ourselves on similar products to ours being used around the world, as well as current market trends. Although sanitary waste is a global situation it’s always interesting to learn how different countries deal with the issue.

What makes Interclean different from other trade shows?

Richard: For us there is no show that is as important and all-encompassing as Interclean is. Interclean Amsterdam is almost in our back garden, and it is the show that we, as a manufacturer of cleaning products, look forward to every two years. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone to our booth again.
Chris: The early trade shows for us were about finding distributors in different countries who were keen to supply our products to their customers. As years have passed the emphasis has evolved to talking with our existing distributors, educating others on our products, and directing them to our distributor network. Of course, we are still always looking for new distributors in countries we don’t currently supply to!

What currently excites you with regards to the innovations and trends in the professional cleaning and hygiene industry?

Richard: Two years ago, there were few innovations due to the recent pandemic. This year I am also very much looking forward to new innovations from other exhibitors. There will also be a bigger focus on sustainability and that is a nice development.
Chris: The general trend I have observed over the last number of years is the move towards environmentally friendly solutions. There are a lot of manufacturers doing their best to continually improve, however some of the solutions can be extremely expensive and customers don’t want to pay exorbitant prices for disposal of sanitary waste. There are many different opinions as well, as to what is better for the environment.

Any advice for exhibitors to get the most out of Interclean?

Richard: Enjoy it!
Chris: Other than the 30+ hours travel to get there; Amsterdam is a beautiful city to visit. We always like to stay in apartments where the locals live rather than hotels. We find it easy to get around and have still not run out of historical sites to visit!

Top tips for attracting visitors to your booth?

Richard: Interclean starts long before the first day of the show. Prior to the event talk about it with new contacts, tell them you will also be present at the show and invite them to your stand. Make people curious about your innovations, go to the Exhibitor Kick-off and make sure your stand and team are ready.
Chris: Attend the various workshops, live demos and social events – that way you meet and mingle with potential visitors, opening up the chance to tell people about what you have on offer and why they shouldn’t miss out.

What does the cleaning and hygiene market look like at the moment?

Richard: The market is in full swing, and we can’t wait to discover all the exciting new opportunities and innovations at this year’s Interclean Amsterdam!
Chris: We’re very excited about what the future holds – Interclean Amsterdam is the pulse of the market and the window to the future of global cleaning and hygiene.

Since 1967 exhibitors have travelled from far and wide to showcase innovations and solutions that continue to transform the industry. From 14 - 17 May 2024 at RAI Amsterdam, Interclean Amsterdam will once again be uniting the cleaning and hygiene industry from far and wide!
